In January the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce collaborated with SDSU’s Office of the President, the City of Brookings, Brookings County and the Brookings Economic Development Center on an annual trip to Pierre called Brookings/SDSU Day at the Capital. The Chamber reaches out to its membership to “get on the bus” as we take two buses to Pierre, leaving at 5:30 am and returning at 11:30 at night. This fun filled day is a chance for Brookings and SDSU leaders to hear from South Dakota State Secretaries, Commissioners, Legislators and our Chief Justice. This year we brought 85 people from Brookings, met with 14 presenters and Governor Daugaard and topped off the day with social that included a good representation of Representatives and Senators from across the State. Our message, as a collective whole, was about progress with a visionary approach. I want to thank our delegates from District 7 and District 4 who take their time and energy to represent the Brookings area.
Other areas of building and expanding is with our programming for 2017. The Brookings Area Chamber has teamed up with the Brookings Blizzard to offer our first ever Business meets Blizzard nights at the Larson Ice Arena. This is another great opportunity for our Chamber members to become more familiar with the quality of life and entertainment Brookings has to offer. We have also teamed up with the Research Park at SDSU to bring in a regional speaker to be a part of the Chamber’s Leadership, Exploration and Development program.
As 2017 begins, we look forward to collaborating with other businesses and organizations to meet our mission and to continue to move Brookings forward.
