Welcome to the first addition of “The Link”! It seems appropriate that our new monthly magazine begins as my term as President of the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce Board comes to an end. What a perfect exclamation point to an exciting year!
We began our year with a very productive strategic planning session that helped the Board and staff develop Five Key Objectives - Organizational Excellence, Community & Member Outreach, Small Business, Leadership & Development and Government Affairs.
We rolled out our new membership “Bundle Up” campaign, which clearly communicated Chamber benefits to our new and existing members. I am happy to report that your Brookings Area Chamber is now 500 members strong!
We conducted small business focus groups to understand their unique challenges and developed a professional development series to meet their needs called “Leadership Exploration & Development” (LEAD.) It offers a variety of topics including Workplace Communication, Leading across Generations, Social Media, Succession Planning and Conflict Resolution.
We are expanding our “Think Local” Campaign to include specific events like “Think Local – Wedding” and “Think Local – New Home,” which will highlight Chamber members that could be utilized in each specific campaign.
And finally, we established this new monthly publication, The LINK, with a distribution of 20,000 copies to a 25 mile radius of Brookings. Whew! What a year it has been.
I am so grateful for the collaboration and cooperation of the entire Board of Directors, as well as our awesome Chamber staff! It’s been a rewarding experience to have 16 Board members and four staff members, all from different industries and in different stages of their careers, come together for a common purpose and vision - to promote, connect, enrich and advocate for the Brookings area business community!
