A Year of New Connections

By: Justin Meyer, Committee Member, Connect 2140

Connect 2140 provides a vehicle to help young professionals network and develop personally and professionally in an effort to retain dynamic and vibrant young individuals in the Brookings area. As a committee of the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce, we work to achieve this vision by hosting professional development opportunities.

Each month, our committee hosts one professional development and one networking event with topics and venues targeting the age group of 21-40:

  • On the second Tuesday of each month Power Hours are held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Research Park at SDSU (new location). Power Hours are focused on professional development, and have a diverse group of topics and speakers ranging from home buying to discussions with city leaders. Complimentary lunch is provided!
  • On the first Thursday of the month from 4-7 p.m. we host Sub40Socials. These open networking events offer free beverages and appetizers, along with a chance to see some of the unique venues in Brookings. Attendees also have a chance to win prizes! The socials are free to attend, and you can come and go as you please.

In addition to planning and hosting events, we engage in a volunteer activity each year to give back to the community. In recent years, we have served hot chocolate to attendees at the Festival of Lights Parade.

The Connect 2140 committee is made up of 11 professionals representing a variety of employers in the community. More information about the committee and our events can be found on www.brookingschamber.org or search for us on Facebook. We are excited for a new year of connections in 2018!
