Most people in the business world dislike Human Resources. We are seen as the “police” enforcing weird rules that no one is quite sure why we have to follow, only that we do, probably because we always had to. HR must sure love compliance and laws to want to keep up with all of them!
The Brookings Area Human Resources Association (BAHRA) would like to dispel those rumors! We are a group of Human Resources professionals looking to advance the profession, help others with questions or concerns they may have, and connect people with people. We would like you to join us at our monthly lunch & learns to see just how much fun we can have (there might even be beer at the evening events!). If you think you don’t belong because you aren’t HR, think again! You should be with us as a small business owner, a large business owner or just have HR as part of your “other duties as assigned.”
Each month, we bring in speakers and have round table discussions on a variety HR or leadership related topics; in the past couple of years, we have tried to focus less on the compliance side and more on the Employee Relations side. Our goal is to have something that might appeal to anyone who works with people! We are working to provide more networking opportunities, to connect professionals with others to share information and resources. In 2018, we want to reach more small business owners who may not need a full time Human Resources professional, but may need to talk through issues with someone who is familiar with laws and regulations or may just need to be pointed in the right direction for support.
Our monthly lunch & learns are on the third Wednesday and this year we are excited to be at Wooden Legs Brewery. Come for the pizza, stay for the networking! Some upcoming topics include Sexual Harassment in the Workplace and Working with the five different generations. To RSVP or see a full list, visit our website https://bahrabrookings.shrm.org/.
We are also thrilled to bring DisruptHR Brookings back! We will once again be at Club 71 on July 25. We will have plenty of time for networking and some learning. Keep an eye on our website for details!
BAHRA is a part of the larger Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and the South Dakota council. We welcome any professional looking to network and learn a little more about human resources, focus on the Human side of that.
