In the past month the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business Development Committee wrapped up its second focus group session with area businesses. During the four sessions business leaders were asked a series of questions including “what is the most important need for your business today?” The responses varied but held throughout was a common theme that will help shape our next Leadership, Exploration and Development (LEAD) series beginning in the fall of 2016.
The 2015/16 LEAD series explored a number of leadership / managerial topics including; Leadership 101, Effective Communication, Marketing today and current trends and closing the generational gap among others. The 2016/17 series will explore similar topics with a focus on the needs from the business community that have been identified within the last few weeks. One area of change will be the instruction and delivery. This series, we will diversify the instructors and look to area and national professionals to assist withbringing ideas and concepts to our participants that can be applied directly to their place of business.
Collaborative efforts with the Brookings Area Human Resource Association (BAHRA) and with the South Dakota Education Campus (SDEC) will strengthen the professional development and educational opportunities in the region. LEAD has filled gaps that help assist with the demand of the ever changing workforce. As more and more of our next generation enter into the workforce, one of the Brookings Area Chamber’s goals is to retain our talent and offer professional development for all of our business community. We at the Brookings Area Chamber want to thank our collaborators, our Business Development Committee and our businesses that took part in the focus groups. We look forward to continuing our efforts to meet our mission; to promote, connect, enrich and advocate for the Brookings area business community.
